When Jeff Haider from Excellent Contracting first saw 126 Pierrepont Street in Brooklyn Heights, the facade was in poor condition. “It had been resurfaced many years ago with a mismatched color,” he said.
The glaring difference was the stoop — the only one on the block with no traditional brownstone handrails and posts.
As a restoration specialist, Jeff is always eager to bring back missing historical details. “So when the client mentioned she was interested in a historical restoration, I was very excited with the potential of the project,” he said.
Excellent Contracting worked with an architectural firm to obtain LPC approval for restoring the stoop details and resurfacing the facade. “We dug up the historical tax photos of the building and studied them very carefully to prepare the drawings,” Jeff said.
The stoop sidewalls and posts were built with reinforced concrete and refinished in brownstone. New ironwork gates and windows guards with intricate details were also installed.
The facade was completely redone. It was chipped away, and resurfaced using a landmark approved method: slurry coat, scratch coat, and new finish brownstone coat.
